Overview
We are consulting on a proposed standard AS/NZS 60335.2.202:202x
Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 2.202: Particular requirements for portable inverters and portable power stations.
The proposed AS/NZS standard was prepared by Joint Technical Committee EL-002 Safety of household and similar electrical appliances and small power transformers and power supplies.
By addressing safety issues of portable inverters and portable power stations that incorporate lithium-ion batteries against fire and providing a standard that allows products to comply with AS/NZS 3001.2, the standard ensures that only safe and compliant products reach consumer and that clear, consistent and fair requirements are in place.
The proposed standard AS/NZS 60335.2.202:202x will supersede AS/NZS 4763:2011 and follow the structure of the AS/NZS 60335 series, where Part 1 (AS/NZS 60335.1) provides general safety requirements, and each Part 2 standard defines appliance-specific requirements, while fully adopting Part 1.
AS/NZS 60335.1:2022 Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 1: General requirements is a modified adoption of IEC 60335-1:2020, Ed.6.0 and is internationally harmonised.
By aligning with the internationally harmonised AS/NZS 60335 framework, AS/NZS 60335.2.202 will ensure improved safety, harmonisation, and relevance for modern products.
