This Australian Standard outlines the specifications for safety glazing materials used in building construction.
The standard defines requirements for glazing materials that are designed to reduce the risk of injury when broken, and are used in:
- Doors and windows,
- Partitions and balustrades,
- Shower screens and other architectural applications.
It applies to various types of safety glazing materials, including toughened glass, laminated glass, wired glass, and other impact-resistant products.

- Classification: AS 2208:2023 categorises safety glazing materials based on their impact performance (e.g., Grade A, B, C).
- Performance Requirements: Includes criteria for impact resistance, fragmentation behaviour, and durability.

The standard de-jointed in 2023 and became AS 2208:2023. The standard has been reviewed by a New Zealand committee for its suitably to rejoin. After consultation with Standards Australia, and the Technical Committee BD-007 Glazing and fixing of glass, Standards Australia has agreed (subject to the New Zealand Standards Approval Board confirmation) that the standard can be rejoined and redesignated as a joint Australian/New Zealand Standard. A modification has been made to clause 1.6 to cater for New Zealand conditions.
